Everyone did really amazing with learning new ways of seeing. I so look forward to my next trip down! And Charleston is not only a beautiful city but has quite the thriving art community!
Thanks to The Artist Loft School for hosting the workshop and to Chris Garvey for organizing the whole event!
     Students hard at work!
Middelton Plantation. Beautiful place. Can't wait to go back to paint! Just have to watch out for those alligators.
Charleston has a great little museum called the Gibbs Museum, where I got to see an amazing watercolor show by Mary White. Really beautiful work!

    Cambridge 2012 Summer schedule

Cambridge Street Studios, Philadelphia’s new premier academic atelier of drawing, painting, and sculpture, is pleased to announce its programs for Summer 2012. Join us for our Figure Drawing and Painting workshops, our Cast Drawing class, Open Studio Sessions, or Movie Night.
Angela Cunningham is the Principal Instructor and of the founders of CSS. She received her training at the Grand Central Academy in New York under Jacob Collins from 2007-2010. I also currently teach part-time at The Grand Central Academy, the Beaux-Arts Atelier in NYC, and various workshops through out the United States.

    Workshops - Summer 2012

    'Jes' - Angela Cunningham. Graphite.
    Figure Block-In Workshop
    Instructed by Angela Cunningham
    June 11-15 (5 days)
    10:00am to 4:30pm, with a 1/2 hour lunch

This class will present a concrete process for creating accurate figure drawings. Shape-seeing, decision-making, measuring, materials handling and other techniques will be covered in depth. Students will learn to draw with purpose, problem solve and make confident decisions, while developing a set of tools for evaluating and correcting their work. Suitable for beginning to advanced students.

'Meredith' - Angela Cunningham. Oil on Canvas.
    Figure Painting Workshop
    Instructed by Angela Cunningham
    June 18-22 (5 days)
    10:00am to 4:30pm, with a 1/2 hour lunch

In this class students will learn how to create a convincing illusion of three dimensional forms in paint. This class will cover setting up your palette, how to do an oil transfer, a one day color study, and modeling form in paint.

Beginning students are recommended to take the drawing workshop prior to painting workshop. Students who take the figure block-in workshop will stretch and tone their canvases the week prior to painting workshop. The first day of painting workshop will be for oil transfer and color study; days 2-5 will be for form painting.

Students taking just the painting workshop will do a one-day partial figure drawing (head or head and torso), and transfer their drawing that evening. A demo of an oil transfer will be given during class. Students taking only this workshop will model form on the second day of class (no color study).

    'Laocoon' - Angela Cunningham. Graphite.
    Evening Cast Drawing
    Instructed by Jeremy Deck
    Monday through Friday, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
July and August sessions (no June session)
    $200 per month.

If you are a beginner just learning to draw, or an experienced artist looking to hone your drawing skills, in Cast Drawing you will learn a powerful step-by-step procedure for artistic problem solving. You will draw from plaster casts of classical sculpture, and learn how to see shapes accurately, create a truthful drawing, and, by cultivating a profound understanding of light on form, render three dimensions with a high degree of sensitivity and fidelity. All skill levels welcome!

    Open Studio Sessions
    Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 5:30pm - 9:30 pm
    June, July and August sessions
$15 for a single session, $150 for a month pass

During out Open Studio sessions we open up our life-drawing room to the public and hire a figure model for a month long pose. We work with some of the best figure models in the area; this is a unique opportunity to come draw or paint from the live model for an extended period of time.

We are trying something new for our summer Open Studios; if you just want to drop by here and there, the price will be $15 per session. If you would like to join us on a more regular basis, we are offering a month-long pass for $150, for which you will get access to every life drawing session that month, in addition to storage space for your materials and works in progress.
