2010 Sculpture Competition

GCA is pleased to announce the finalists  for it's Third Annual  Classical Figure Sculpture Competition! I am currently working on a portrait of my friend Penny, who has been amazingly kind to sit for me as our once a week girls hang out night. The drawing is just about finished and I will be working on some color studies this week.

the

Copying from the antique has always been the foundation

of a classical sculptor's education. Beginners will start by

copying casts of the features of Michelangelo’s David

while advanced students approach more complicated casts

from our collection. Students are encouraged to advance

from the block-in at a slow, calm pace to gain a deeper

understanding of classical form, structure, gesture and

planes to ultimately arrive at fully rendered sculptures.
